About A Mindful Space

I’m Julie Sleilaty and I am so happy you’re here.

My mindfulness journey started several years ago during a particularly challenging time in my life. I was searching for ways to cope with the emotional and physical symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks. I had heard about mindfulness but didn’t really know anything about it, so I decided to start by downloading a meditation app and started a formal practice. Soon after starting this daily practice, I began to feel a noticeable improvement in my overall anxiety levels and was able to manage my panic attacks – in fact, I haven’t had a single panic attack since starting my mindfulness journey.

I wanted to learn all I could about mindfulness and soon realized that it is so much more than just meditating, it’s a way of being and noticing the world within and around us in a non-judgmental way. I have since completed several certificated mindfulness courses and expanded on this learning through my education. I recently received my Master of Education degree from the University of Calgary with a specialization in Children’s Mental Health and Educational Neuroscience. I also undertook a year-long research project examining the impacts of a mindfulness practice on teachers and my findings were published in an academic journal. You can find the link to it here.

“Mindfulness gives us the space to thoughtfully choose our response to our emotions, thoughts, and circumstances. Given the ever-changing and complex times that we live in, this is a skill that is needed now more than ever before.”

What I am most excited about is introducing mindfulness to children. I have been a primary teacher for fourteen years and I regularly incorporate mindfulness practices in my second-grade classroom. Noticing a huge improvement in my young students’ ability to regulate their emotions and an overall sense of calm in the classroom has made me realize how important it is to teach this valuable skill to children at a young age.

I have made it my mission to share the transformative power of mindfulness with others and have had the honour of giving several presentations and working with various organizations teaching them how to incorporate this practice into their lives and workplaces. My goal as a mindfulness consultant is to guide you on a journey towards mindfulness so that you can find acceptance and live a more calm and purposeful life. I can’t wait to help you discover this life-changing practice for yourself.
